Following are the levels of membership available in the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons:
Active - This category of members shall have successfully completed a plastic surgery residency program approved by the Residency Review Committee for Plastic Surgery (or its Canadian equivalent) and shall have current Active Membership in the ASPS (or its Canadian equivalent). Voting privileges and the opportunity to hold office and serve on committees of the Society are extended to members of this status.
Life - With a written request, life membership is granted to active members of the Society who have reached age sixty-five or are no longer practicing, and have been active members for at least five years. The Board of Directors may also confer this status upon members at their discretion. Life members retain the privilege of voting and may serve on committees of the Society. They are not required to pay dues or assessments and shall not hold office.
Honorary - Honorary membership may be conferred upon physicians, or other professionals, who have achieved eminence in their field, and who have made exceptional contributions to the art, science, or promotion of plastic surgery. Honorary members do not pay dues and are not eligible to run for office, vote, or serve on the Society's committees.
Candidate - Candidates for membership shall have successfully completed a plastic surgery residency program approved by the Residency Review Committee for Plastic Surgery (or its Canadian equivalent) and shall be current Candidates-for-Membership in the ASPS (or its Canadian equivalent). Candidates for membership pay dues, but do not have voting privileges and cannot be elected to office or serve on committees.
Corresponding - Corresponding memberships is an honor bestowed upon select Plastic Surgeons who have achieved distinction in their own state and are otherwise ineligible for full NESPS membership in the NESPS.
Associate - Associate membership shall be considered an honor bestowed by the Society upon individuals who have made significant contributions to plastic and reconstructive surgery. Associate Members shall be individuals of high moral, ethical and professional competence; shall be actively engaged in the practice of plastic and reconstructive surgery or other medical specialty, profession, scientific, or para-medical field which is directly related to plastic and reconstructive surgery; and shall have made a contribution which has significantly furthered the art and science of plastic and reconstructive surgery. There shall be no citizenship requirement to become an Associate Member.
Resident Affiliate - Any resident in a program within one of the states in the NESPS's region is eligible to be a Resident Affiliate with completion of a simple application and payment of a modest annual fee.
